In this episode, we recap our summer movies episode with Angie Pedersen of KC Geeks. We also discuss our respective trips to Europe and Big Cedar Lodge and fun things to do in Kansas City and Chicago. It’s more food festivals and music festivals than any one person can handle.

Before and after the official fun, we out bad behavior and celebrate a moment or two where common decency has prevailed. Has empathy and sympathy had a moment?

The two buddies who like to drink a lot of craft beer together, talk summer fun filled with movies, travel (trips), food festivals and music festivals.

But before talking summer fun and recapping their conversation with Angie Pedersen of KC Geeks, the fellas …

- Celebrating human decency prevailing this week:
  - ABC cancels Roseanne and other outlets stop running it in syndication
  - Missouri Governor Eric Greitens FINALLY resigns
- Chad’s youngest daughter makes the Kansas City Youth Symphony’s Debut Orchestra as violist
- Both of Brent’s kids get a clean bill of health during their annual check up (Nothing to sneeze at because you can’t take you kids’ health for granted.)
- Raise a glass to guest producer Gary Arnold Seevers from Arnold Seevers Media (our usual producer was in a different state … Chad wonders what kind of state … state of mind?)
And chat about what they’ve got going on:
- Kansas City First Fridays is happening this weekend! The fellas talk plans to visit the Blue Gallery and see Melissa McCracken’s INCANDESCENSE Exhibit
- American Cancer Society revising their guidance on colonoscopies … from 50 to 45.
- Big Slick 2018 … and Chad’s love of Jake Tapper and how it’s almost like it’s a convention now. It’s for a great cause, supporting Kansas City’s Children’s Mercy Hospital. (They devolve into a conversation about how it’s a jackass move to just call up celebrities just because you may happen to have their phone number in your phone.). At some point Chad says he wants to have Paul Rudd on the show.
- The NBA Finals — Cavs VS. Warriors (Guy guarantees to buy you a jersey if Cavs win.). Chad contends that everyone has a little Cleveland in their blood. Brent predicts Warriors in five — and they didn’t even need that, sweeping the Cavs.

This Week’s Topic — Summer Fun With Trips, Movies, Food and Music Festivals

In the discussion, the fellas chat:

A segment … recap of their discussion with Angie Pedersen of KC Geeks? * Since the interview, she’s posted a great guide to free summer movies in Kansas City (Angie’s known to often publish free geek to low-cost geek outings.)
- They express some shock over how Brent has not seen Solo … (if you saw it, did you consider it a dumpster fire?)
- Chad was dragged to Melissa McCarthy’s Life of the Party (Chad’s quick take … while he love Melissa, just watch the trailer.)
- And they finally talk Deadpool 2 …
  - They’re a little surprised at its week 2 attendance drop
  - Both of the guys felt the Deadpool sequel was on par with the original
- The boys then posit whether we really needed another Jurassic Park. Now … if it’s a social commentary about the uber rich. Game on.
- And they give Mr. Rogers his due and finally talk about the movie (it was after all alluded to in the past episode but never discussed)
  - The documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor reflects on Mr. Rogers fight for kindness and human decency. The positive message may just be what we need right now.
  - So … the fellas chat whether there is there enough empathy and sympathy in the world.
  - And quickly devolve into how iconic Mr. Rogers was, pointing to Eddie Murphy’s SNL turn as and the infamous Mr. Robinson …
  - Finally, Brent declares that he may be Mr. Rogers in the coming weeks as Chad heads of to Europe, i.e. standing in with puppets

This Week’s Segment … SCHOOL’S OUT FOR SUMMER FUN!

- Brent and Chad share how they plan on filling their respective summer fun … (and how the family does it, too)
  - Watching teenagers stay up crazy late and sleep until noon
  - Chad chat a bit about his family trip to Europe, where they’ll hit four different countries
  - Brent discusses the summer of family invasion (in late June and early August). Though this will include a trip to Big Cedar Lodge. Brent’s particularly excited about Big Cedar Lodge’s new attraction, Fun Mountain, which features a Pitfall-style ropes course (i.e. the area below is filled with the peril of alligators and pythons) … and go-karts. Chad remarks: Only in the Ozarks
  - They remark on the wonder of The Kansas City Parks and Rec’s The Bay water park. Both were unaware of its splendor until it was featured in the June “Up Next!“

With the fellas talking movies … they highlight KC Library’s “Off the Wall” film series … SUMMER CINEMA MIXTAPE (it’s where they turn the roof of the downtown Kansas City Library into a movie theater)
- The shows started May 18 with School of Rock and then June showed CB4
- Summer season ends Sept. 21 with Pitch Perfect. Chad and Brent are men enough to admit how they’re proud to be Pitch Perfect fans.
- You head to the movie and you also get two free beers from KC Bier Co.
- Brent’s final remarks … bring your own chair … and they allow Lay Bags …
Chicago designer Amanda Zimmerman shares highlights of different food and music festivals to hit (The boys give her shout out for her original artwork. And they’re big fans of food and drinks.)
Their guest producer Gary gets the guys talking about the Johnson County Heritage and Arts Center for Theatre in the Park (and the Electric House, to which Brent’s never been)
And finally … while Brent’s KCYA fund drive is over — thanks everyone who helped him successfully send about $1500 to summer art camp scholarships — you can always help kids discover the arts.
